Giving Back to the Community : To ‘Promise Worldwide’ in this month
It’s my pleasure to announce that the first ad for non-profits has gone up on Suggestlocal.com. The response for the scheme has been overwhelmingly positive and we are only too happy to oblige!
You can see a sample of it in this page:

The Ad is also being served in the internal application pages.
Pass the word around and let’s do our cause for our community.
Its ‘Give-Back’ time!

Getting old friends together isn’t always easy
I went to high school in New York City many, many years ago. Thanks to email I still keep in touch with my old friends now that we’ve scattered across the globe.
One of our biggest challenges when we meet up is negotiating the wheres and whens. In the past we would spend hours (literally) tossing ideas back and forth – discussing price, cuisine, ambiance… you name it (we are an opinionated group).
I’m looking forward to using SuggestLocal the next time we head East for a mini-reunion. I’ll toss out a list of suggestions to the group ahead of time so we can get the negotiations out of the way in advance, and I’ll make our reservation as soon as we come to consensus.
That way we’ll actually be able to enjoy each other’s company when in it!

Contributing to the cause of local non-profits…
SuggestLocal is starting a scheme in which a premium spot of the site (like the top banner on all pages) would be entirely devoted to an ad from a non-profit organization for FREE.
In that ad, the non-profit can target for fund raising or for more volunteers, whatever is strategically important for them. The ad will be run for a month or two and all proceeds from the ad will ONLY belong to the non-profit.
Zytes, the company behind the site is doing this solely for charitable purposes and has no intention to make any financial gains whatsoever. In fact, as we grow stronger and bigger, we would start to match a certain percentage of the total proceeds too.
This is one the ways that we can think of giving back to the local community: by contributing to the cause of various local non-profits.
So, if you know of any non-profits which would like to avail of this opportunity, please send us an email at social_causes@zytes.com
Details of the Ad and its Placement…
We made the move!
Yes, we did it! It’s never very easy. We know we had to take the bite one day or the another! And so we finally did it!
We moved our servers to a new colo in Fremont. We also added more servers. (Yes, we need it! And I am not pandering for some geek pleasure!) And along with the move, we had our usual share of problems. But things were quickly resolved and we are now up and running. So our servers are in a brand new colo, sitting majestically in a new cage, whirring away in all their glory!

SuggestLocal.com – Everyday Events Made Easy
Deciding on a lunch place to go to with your colleagues? Cannot settle on a sports bar to go to for the Friday evening game? Need to discuss about a good hotel to stay for the weekend gateway?
Everyday we deal with such events. And everyday we go through the wringer! We laboriously send out emails to all parties and then follow through with replies, arduously keep track of who said what and when and then painfully follow up with last minute phone calls to keep everyone on the same page. Such everyday events, however trivial they may be, do take up a lot of time and effort. The time that could well spent productively elsewhere.
Yes, time is money and we decided to do something to help you save some of it!
SuggestLocal.com enables users to handle such everyday events easily, quickly and efficiently.
No Login Required; Not for you or your friends
For every event discussed and for every participant, a personalized page is created for making selections and discussions. But to access this page, no one needs to open accounts or login. The email that each of them received contains a personalized link which gives them personalized access to this page.
Send Instant Messages to your friends without needing an Instant Messenger application!
Users can send instant messages to each other as they discuss about the list of suggestions. But no one needs to download and install any software to take use of this functionality. It just works right inside the page!
Build your Social Network on the Go
As users browse through the listing of venues, the site automatically shows them what they, their immediate friends and their social network have been suggesting in the past. User’s benefit from the information of the suggestions being made in their social network and make better selections.
But for this, the users dont have to painfully build up their social network yet again on another site. The site automatically built it up for them as they used the site and sent out emails with the list of suggestions.
